Texas Attorney General, Greg Abbott, has initiated an investigation into Google’s advertising and search policy, to check whether the Silicon Valley based company has been manipulating results to suppress competition.
The antitrust investigation on Google was launched, after three companies, Foundem (an online shopping comparison website in Britain), SourceTool (an e-commerce site catering to businesses) and MyTriggers (another shopping comparison website) filed law suits against the company saying that Google was manipulating results on its search engine and as a result their websites were ranked much lower. They also accused the search engine of demanding huge fees to improve their respective rankings.
Google laid its foundation as a company out of a garage, more than a decade ago. Today, the company processes almost two-thirds of the search requests on the internet in the United States and generates revenue of more than USD 30 billion annually, from its operations across the globe. In some countries the search engine accounts for an even bigger share of the search requests.
